Thursday 19 May, Wellington: The 2011 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year, Sir Paul Callaghan, will be speaking on “New Zealand: the place where talent wants to live”. This continues discussions from StrategyNZ: Mapping our Future and therefore will be of particular interest to participants.
12 May – 21 May, National: Jeanette Fitzsimons has helped organised world famous climate scientist, Dr James Hansen, undertake a series of talks about “Human-made climate change: a scientific, moral and legal issue.” If you’ve been puzzled about the controversies on climate change, this is your chance to get it straight.
Tuesday 17 May, Wellington: There is a free symposium on the “Future of Coal,” which Dr Hansen will be speaking at. This symposium will address questions such as: What is the way forward? Does carbon capture and storage (CCS) offer a satisfactory solution? Or will coal production need to be severely curtailed in the interests of maintaining a stable, hospitable climate?
